When you upload a picture, the OCR engine processes it locally using WebAssembly technology — your images are never sent to us or anyone else. The sensitive documents, ID cards, private notes and screenshots you convert stay completely private. We couldn't read them even if we wanted to, because they never reach us.

PicToTexts is powered by Tesseract, one of the world's most respected open-source OCR engines. Tesseract began at HP Labs in the 1980s, was open-sourced in 2005, and was subsequently sponsored and developed by Google for over a decade. Today it supports more than 100 languages and delivers excellent accuracy on printed text.
What makes our implementation unusual is where the engine runs. Instead of running Tesseract on a server farm and shuttling your images across the internet, we package it to run directly in your web browser via WebAssembly — a technology that lets near-native code run safely inside web pages. The first conversion loads the engine and your selected language model; after that, conversions are fast and fully local.
